Not Another Fiji Postcard

There is nothing I find more rewarding than seeking out a photo that truly encapsulates a moment. When I was in Fiji recently, I enjoyed getting away from the beaches, opting for a candid view of life in Fiji. Postcards are nice, but I find real beauty in gritty reality.

I have been a keen photographer ever since saving up for my first point-and-snap camera in 2003. To this day, I still firmly believe that some of the best moments I've captured have been on this 3.2 megapixel Canon A70 and faithful tabletop tripod.

While my gear may have advanced a little over the years, my philosophy to taking photos has never changed. When getting to know a place, I make it a policy to explore every alley, nook and cranny with camera in tow ... and I won't give up until I've captured an image that truly speaks to me.

Another of my passions is music. In fact, you could say it is an obsession. I am a vinyl collector, with a respectable catalogue of obscure 60s and 70s rock. What can I say - I love the organic sound and impressive album art! Some say I was born in the wrong generation, and I would agree if it wasn't for my not-so-subtle techy tendencies.

Where childhood piano lessons may not have fit the bill as my creative outlet, photography has. If possible, I would love to travel the globe, capturing moments that only a rare few have ever had the opportunity to witness, sharing these images for all to see.

I am always keen to learn new ways to improve my technique, broadening my creative horizons. Lately, this has included experimentation with film and timelapse videography. But photography will always be #1 - my finger remaining firmly on the trigger, capturing stills.
