A temple worker stays in near constant motion arranging the myriad of candles at the Longshan Temple in Taipei, Taiwan. Although Buddhism has been a part of Taiwanese culture for more than three centuries, the last 25 years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of practicing followers.

Residents of Taipei worship at the Longshan Temple, a structure originally dating back to 1738. Although Longshan is considered a Buddhist temple, Taiwanese Buddhism also uniquely incorporates Taoist and Confusion beliefs and practices into its places and modes of worship.

Intricate image cones flank the main altar of the Confucius Temple in Taipei, Taiwan. Image cones are comprised of hundreds of miniature Buddha statues with small lights, each of which is paid for on a yearly basis by a worshipper as an offering to deity.
