My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I bounce around from one side of the world to the other. These days, I consider myself a nomad. I absolutely love venturing into remote places that have yet to be reached by the tourism industry. Last year, I made a spontaneous decision to pack up and move from Canada to Australasia, despite never visiting and knowing very little about this side of the Pacific.
I have just completed my masters degree in marine conservation in Wellington, New Zealand. I hope to combine my science and photography background to document current conservation issues. Photographs provide powerful images that words alone cannot describe and I hope to capture deep and meaningful photographs that inspire people to want to make a difference in the world.
My main interest in photography is nature but I want to become more confident in my travel photography. While I have no problem chasing down sharks with a camera in my hand, I often find people extremely intimidating to photograph. I shy away from instances that could have been amazing photographic opportunities. This scholarship would give me just what I need to push myself to strive and become the photographer I want to be.
