My Scholarship entry - Rainbow Falls

USA | Tuesday, November 18, 2014 | 4 photos

I have always been a storyteller. Growing up in a small town of 2,000 people in the middle of Iowa left me with a lot of time to create my own fun. I let my imagination run wild. My siblings joined me and became my best friends.

In the spring we were Native Americans. The acorns and flowers in our backyard became the medicine used to treat the wounds caused by the white man; our bikes turned into galloping horses that we rode through the woods; a beanbag was the bear the great warriors would hunt and kill to feed their tribe. In the fall we would pack our things and make the voyage to the New World. We would fish over the side of our beds being careful not to fall in. Eventually we would become wary of the captain, convinced he was a pirate planning on taking over both the ship and its crew.

Now that I am an adult, I still carry the same passion and storytelling abilities that I had as a child. I know I have what it takes. I am a go-getter and have an eye for detail. I am ready to travel the world and discover the real stories that are waiting to be told. The opportunity and a mentor to help me refine my skills will open doors and give me the chance to make my passion a career.
