My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

Every friend and traveler that visits me in San Diego gets the same answer to that legendary question, "What should I do while I'm in town?" Coronado my friend, take a bike to the island! The Silver Strand that connects this otherwise island to mainland California is a natural wonder gifted to humanity. And the paved bike path is a gift to the adventure seeking cyclists everywhere. Nine miles of zero elevation, no traffic and beautiful beaches on both sides. The cyclists of the world needed to know about this sacred path. Thinking about all those oblivious cyclists, I grabbed my camera and shot a short video about the bike route, where to grab a beer after and how to cross the bay back to the mainland.
I'm a graduate of a video production school and continue to study broadcast news production at my community college. Mostly, I shoot community stories to generate content for a hyperlocal community webpage.
I envision producing stories that examine diverse cultures, but allow people to present their own culture and perspective. An opportunity to do just that, while learning from a professional in the field, and expanding my vision sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime.
