My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Sudan | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Brian Ceci and I'm from Vancouver, Canada. I've been traveling on and off for the last six years, starting with a 9 month trip to Australia in 2006. I love to travel. It is a melodic, emotional experience for me in every way. I feel that experiencing the world is a fantastic education, and teaches you about yourself and the way people are.

I make short videos for a living. When I was in Australia, I had this feeling that I needed to be in film, so I went to school for two years and started shooting. Since I was a kid my grandparents had piles and piles of old Natural Geographic magazines, which I always would bury my head into. I would love to be a part of it.

Recently, I traveled to South Sudan with an NGO called Obakki (www.obakki.com) to capture footage for campaigns to raise money for drilling boreholes. The landscapes and the people are utterly breathtaking, and have so many unbelievable stories of hardship.

My friend mentioned I should enter this Scholarship. And since the middle east has always interested me, I would love travel to Oman to learn how to take photos like a photojournalist. That would be so amazing. I follow several photojournalists on twitter, and it's unbelievable how one frame can hold so much emotion and tell a story. This would be a dream of mine to be able to share stories in photos as a living.
