Punta Mona

Costa Rica Harvest

Costa Rica | Tuesday, January 1, 2013 | 4 photos

I first found photography in my Barbie Polaroid camera when I was a little girl, but realized it was my passion over four years ago. Since then, I have been dedicated to photography as a means of creation and communication. Now I am attending College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME, where I study Human Ecology. This examines the way people interact with each other and their environments. Photography is very much a part of human ecology, and through this art I seek to explore nature and people and how the two intersect. Through the thoughtful observation that comes with photography, I believe we may better understand the global environmental, social, and political challenges we currently face. This opportunity to shoot with National Geographic in Oman would deepen my study of human ecology, and teach me invaluable lessons about what it means to be a photographer. I would also gain a better understanding of our world, and experience the joy of sharing that with others.
