Disney After Dark

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 3 photos

My photos are a series I did of Disneyland at night, using only the lights from the attractions to capture the images. I wanted to only use the vibrant experience of Disneyland to create the photos. And I choose these images because they show my style as a silent and unobtrusive photographer, allowing my photos to be a representation of what my eyes actually see, rather than an image manipulated by postproduction. As for me, I'm a bright, ambitious and often quite hilarious 23 year old Californian and photography is a love I stumbled upon while completing my Bachelors degree in Art History. And since then I haven't been able to put my camera down, shooting everything from the ice cream dribbling down my nephew's chin to hot air ballooning over Byron Bay Australia. I love looking at the textures, details, and magic moments of the places I shoot and I always prefer using the natural lighting because I believe both of these show the true essence of what I'm trying to capture. While I love shooting anything and everything, my two passions that I hope to contribute back to the global community are travel and documentary photography and especially a combination of the two. Bringing places and issues (whether heart-breaking or filled to the brim with joy) that are otherwise forgotten, like the photographers of the Farm Security Administration did, is my long-term goal. And I would see this as the opportunity of a lifetime to begin my photography journey and to be able to learn new techniques and be mentored from one of the best in the field. And if chosen I would be a humble and eager student who's heart is dedicated to the art.
