By Foad Shafighi All the five pictures in this journal were taken around the Bouddhanath stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal between June and July 2012.

Whitewashing the Bouddhanath stupa is an ancient ritual aiming for conservation while at the same time is a symbol of renovation and continuity. Twice each month the painters repaint the stupa by pouring the white color on all over the dome then adding yellow color arcs round the stupa in the shape of a double lotus flower. In this picture two men are pouring the yellow color skillfully to make arcs in the shape a lotus flower.
