My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Friday, June 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I am an experienced field biologist working with unusual species in remote wilderness locations. I’ve donated over 5 years of my entire salary, as well as equity on my house, to the creation of new learning opportunities that engage students of all ages and abilities with this work, to start them building careers of their own.
I do this because I believe in making good things happen, and it has inspired others to do the same. We’ve sent students to train in Antarctica, Thailand, Africa, PNG and other exotic locations, resulting in accolades from the Banksia Foundation, the World Environment Day Awards, and being named Australian Geographic’s 2012 Conservationist of the Year.
Telling the stories of these students inspires others, both to dream and to give back. I tell you this not for something in return, but because I want to build my photography skills so I can give more. I can take good pictures, but I want to learn to take great ones. Being able to better convey stories of students discovering the natural world is both exciting and essential in promoting better care of the planet.
The effect and value of this scholarship would be exceptional in helping me contribute more.
