The 5-Star Red Flag

CHINA | Sunday, 11 May 2008 | Views [413]

You will see a lot of Chinese flags during the Olympics.  That is not the everyday Chinese way.  You don't see flags on cars, or houses, or non-government offices, or clothing, or advertisements.  Ubiquitous flag-waving appears to be peculiarly American.  We have plenty to be proud about.  I myself have had flags on my vehicles, mainly to counter those who say that the Greatest Country The World Has Ever Known is the cause of most (or all) of the world's problems.  (You know who you are.)

I don't see any evidence that China wants to take over the world.  The Chinese aren't Kruschev, shouting "We will bury you!"  China mainly feels maligned and misunderstood.  She's just trying to make a go of it, to make a better life for Her people.  She doesn't wish for the West to wither.  She wants to be friends.
