It is apparent that, despite the bombardment of English words on Chinese TV and T-shirts, many Chinese know only the word "Hello." And they are not afraid to use it. At first I responded to "Hello!" with "Hello." Recently I switched to saying "Howdy" instead. "Howdy" is not "Hello" and is therefore not American.
I am then thought to be either Swedish or Russian. Why I would be from Sweden instead of any other blue-eyed baby factory, I don't know. Russia makes sense geographically, but it concerns me that I look that constipated.
