China has affirmative action, and just as in the US, it causes resentments. Minorities will be accepted to universities with lower grades than Han Chinese, for example. The resentment carries over into other areas. "Year after year we pour money into the western provinces (where most of the minorities live.) They should be grateful." I have long thought that China should learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them, in areas such as the environment and workplace safety. Yet the US adopts well-meaning, socialist ideas which have not succeeded elsewhere.
China, being more humble, is therefore more teachable, and is in fact learning far more from us than we are from Her. Our arrogance does not serve us well. China has much to teach if we will open our national mind.
