My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

While spending my summer working at an internship at Reader's Digest in New York City, I began photographing other people at their jobs. I found people from all backgrounds, often working with their hands and utilizing their skilled trades. These photographs show the diversity that is New York City, while uniting everyone with the common factor of hard work.
Photojournalism is my deepest passion. My university does not offer a photojournalism major, so instead I'm a journalism major and photography minor. Through a student-initiated program, I created a photojournalism class to fill the void in my school's curriculum. I create lesson plans, assignments and lectures, as well as lead classes and guide students. I've worked as the photo editor for the student-produced weekly newspaper (I'm currently the managing editor), and work feverishly to teach myself as much as I can about photojournalism and the power of visual images. Winning this scholarship would help me in that it would give me professional training and further invigorate my love of photojournalism.
