My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

When I first bought a DSLR camera before a trip to the Arctic, I became obsessed with photography (and the Arctic, the subject of my entry). Since then I have pushed myself every day to improve my photography skills, trying to learn from professional photographers around the world. Good photography for me is creative, special and very expressive photography that captures one moment that says it all, one moment you want to lose yourself in over and over again.
What I have learned from my passion for photography (besides technical and esthetical aspects) is that for the first time in my life there is nothing uninteresting in the world if I look at it from a photographer’s point of view. There is a challenge and an excitement in every subject. I have also developed an eye for simple things that hit a soft spot in me – I now get to fall in love with a black wall or a person’s eyebrow. I would love to be able to make more people look at the world differently and more intensely through my photography.
I especially love people, travel, and wildlife photography. There are many places and species I have not yet discovered and many that I would love to rediscover with my camera. Also, there is something fascinating to bring out in every person and every face, and I have the inner urge to find it. This incredible opportunity of learning from Jason Edwards would include all those aspects, and it would also give me the chance to experience a new way of seeing. Photography brings out the best qualities in me, and I know that this is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life, even if it also means hardship and endurance.
