Firstly,as a Brahmin boy I always craved to be one of the thousands of people who would participate in Indra Jatra, one of the most important festivals of Newar people
of Kathmandu. But the fear of the crowd was always a barrier.
Secondly, being surrounded by people while filming even as an aspiring filmmaker used to make me nervous because I have never been confident of my filmmaking skills
and facing a camera used to make me nervous.
However, this time I thought of being audacious and breaking all barriers. So for the first time I went to see Indra Jatra with a camera and dared to face a camera in inside the crowd. And I realized that it isn't as tough as I used to think.
While completing two small videos as part of assignment for video production course I was exposed to the process of making documentary films.I enjoyed the process
and seeing people enjoy and learn from my videos gave me a lot of satisfaction.Since then I aspire to master the art.
There are a lot of festivals in Nepal which people even inside Nepal are unaware of.If documented, they have potential to attract audience even outside Nepal.I aim to do so and help people know their value.I am sure that getting to hone my skills with a mentor like Brian Rapsey will be an life changing experience for me as a film-maker.Traveling to a new country to learn effective tools and techniques to present an event in an interesting and also enjoy doing so is the most important thing I can learn to achieve my aim.
