My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I am 25 and was brought up in a deprived area on a council estate near Liverpool, UK. We are not a wealthy family but my parents have always supported my decisions and encouraged me to follow my dreams. Photography has always been a passion of mine ever since my parents bought me my first camera for Christmas when I was 5. I've only recently realised that I could possibly turn my passion into a career when people started commenting on my photographs and asking me to take their wedding pictures. The recession has hit us hard, we were struggling to pay the bills each month but my photography has been a great way to boost income and, in a way, has saved us. I never imagined that photography could be a job, it's just been something I do for fun but now there is nothing I want more than to be a photographer and this scholarship would be a dream start for me. I had always wanted to go to Australia so when I finished university I worked at a summer camp to earn enough money to go. The photographs I have taken are from my trip to Australia. I started in South Australia where I saw Whales migrating to Antarctica. I then took the horse drawn tram to get to Adelaide after visiting the Fairy Penguins on Granite Island. Whilst in Adelaide I went to Mount Lofty Summit and watched the sun set over the ocean. I then travelled from Adelaide to Sydney to admire the opera house and harbour bridge. After taking in all that Sydney had to offer I travelled to Ayeres rock where I camped under the stars and was able to see the magnificent rock change colour at sun rise and sun set. It truely was the trip of a lifetime. and I'm now itching to travel to other exotic locations and improve my photography.
