Moscow, Russia. Day 2

RUSSIAN FEDERATION | Thursday, 20 September 2012 | Views [302] | Comments [2]

We had a city tour today and saw many historical buildings and statues. They kind of run together after a while. Also toured St. Basil Cathedral- absolutely stunning in its ornateness and beauty. Built in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible(I think). Lots of military/ police everywhere (the Red Square is next to the Kremlin).

  A few observations:

1. Moscow has the fattest pigeons of any city I've been in.

 2. Security guards are ubiquitous in Moscow, guarding things I would never imagine guarding, like a fence and 4 guys guarding a parking garage. And they are all big bald men in black suits.

3.  Fashion: Men wear blazers or leather jackets. For women: heels! And a chic dress or skinny jeans. Pants are black or jeans for men and women. I am again reminded of my lack of fashion as I am walking around in khakis, T-shirt and sketchers.

4. Moscow is pricey! A 1 BR apartment in the Central District costs $2 million!

Lastly, I haven't been able to upload pictures to this blog which is rather frustrating! We are leaving tonight on the train to Irkutsk. Will take 3 days, 4 nights so will be without Internet for a few days.

How many people are in your group? How is the train?

We are having so much fun with your mother while you and your dad are traveling. Your blog is fascinating and we will enjoy reading it while we do our luxurious traveling and you do your "down to basics" touring. This must remind your dad of boot camp! Safe travels and God bless.
