or how to avoid an absolutely terrifying, white knuckle, 50 Hail Mary, adrenalin soaked drive over the mountains. While I did not burst into tears at the bottom, I did have to hide behind behind my sunglasses for quite awhile. I am tearing up again just thinking about it. It was a 6% grade downhill. I was riding the brakes the entire time and they started making the car shimmy and making a horrible metal on metal sound. I really did think we were going to die. Needless to say I am bringing the van in tomorrow to get it checked out-AGAIN! We had some more winding roads after that but it made a huge difference just coasting and tapping the brakes-no sounds. It is really hard to coast downhill at 60mph without putting the brakes to the floor but lesson learned.
After staring death in the face it was another unbelievable ride with vistas that I was able to enjoy.
