My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Sunday, October 30, 2011 | 4 photos
I'm an aspiring photographer from India,
currently living in Malaysia doing my studies.
I use photography as my medium to communicate with the world.
And i usually prefer to take portraits in black and white.
I started taking pictures in 2006 with my phone camera and later moved on to a compact camera in 2007. After using a compact for more than one year I realized my relationship with Photography was more than just hobby. So I tried to purchase a entery level DSLR in 2009 and started concentrating on taking Self portraits. And from that moment I have always seen photography as a part of my daily life and i consider it as more than a hobby. I would love to work professional in this field and hope one day I will be able to.
My entry for the scholarship is pictures that i took when i visited Kerala, India last September 2011.
Kerala is known for its greenery and sandy beaches .
Monsoon has always been one of the famous seasons of Kerala.
I always wanted to capture Monsoon in pictures, but then I was scared of the damage it might cause to the camera that I didn’t try.
But this time when I went there, I planned to try it.
What I have tried to capture is the small changes Monsoon can bring in the nature, from a macroscopic point of view.
The photographs show rain droplets over leaves, small plants and even a Tiger striped dragonfly which usually appears in Kerala before Monsoon.
It would be a great honor for me to be a part of this National Geographic Adventure. And as an amateur photographer, being learning from an industry professional like Jason Edwards would be a once in a life time opportunity for me.
So I am hoping my entry is good enough for this competition. Can't wait to see the results.
Thank you,
Beni Ishaque
