My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photography is a medium that can make the extraordinary tangible for everyone: man, woman, or perhaps a child, as her dreams first begin to take shape.

One of my earliest memories involves me stealthily hopping between doorways, tightly grasping my grandparents’ old Brownie Holiday camera. Still glossy and unscratched, it was technically broken, but with every click of the shutter I imagined land-escapes far beyond my reach. Hallways became caverns, and stairs, dramatic cliffs. Brownie went wherever I did back then, but my passion for imagery continues to follow me in the present.

I believe that creativity cannot be ignored. Although not encouraged during my childhood, it’s an overwhelming part of me that I want to make my daily focus. Like those who have inspired me, when I compose a picture my goal is to make an emotionally inspiring contribution that blends my passion for travel and culture.

For me, this scholarship represents an opportunity to give back while completing a body of work that is genuine, meaningful, and creative. My intention is to seek instruction and gain new perspective as an artist, while taking steps toward my photographic future.
