My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I stumbled into the world of photography only recently...yet now, I can't imagine not having a camera in my hands on a daily basis. What started out as a means to document my travel experiences has turned into an amazingly fulfilling hobby. As an American teacher blessed to live abroad to live in Germany, I have the ability to travel around Europe photographing my new home...but I wanted to experience and photograph a completely different environment. I chose Vietnam and Cambodia as my muses, and I am forever grateful that I did. These pictures represent three weeks of wandering aimlessly around sunrise markets, ancient temples, narrow canals, side streets and tucked away restaurants. They represent laughter, amazement, confusion and joy. They represent the photographer that I am proud to have become, but they also show how an experience such as the one you are offering would be beyond beneficial to my practice. I am completely self-taught, and I would be thrilled to soak up the knowledge of an expert with Africa as our beautiful backdrop. I have so much to learn but I have these things to offer: passion, empathy, a sense of humor and adventure, an eye for photography, a love for storytelling, an open mind and desire to keep getting better with every click of my camera.
