My Scholarship entry - Borneo - all creatures, great and small

Malaysia | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

Two years ago I held a ‘real’ camera in my hands for the first time, and as I looked through the lens I felt like I was falling in love for the first time again. I didn't understand aperture, depth-of-field or image stabilizer; it was a foreign language to me. I have much to learn about photography, yet that is the beauty of such an art. No two people will take the same picture through the same lens. I want to be challenged to discover the unchartered, notice the invisible, and delight in the ubiquitous. In turn, I want to share these things with others. I want to inspire future generations get back outside to discover the wonder of nature. Modern day media images are saturated with ‘yummy mummy’ super models – I aspire simply to be a role model for my 5 year old son. I want to show that mummies can be as adventurous and courageous as daddies. I want to prove it is never too late to discover a new passion in life. I want to teach that learning is life-long and a privilege. I want my son to see I was witness to some of the most spectacular creatures, events and people on our planet, and I took the time to respect and translate their stories though the timeless medium of photography.
