Almost Cheeky at the Crazy Crab

I honestly don't know if I can reiterate this entire story without cracking up at myself at least a few times. It was the summer of 2012, right before my senior year of high school. A group of 10 high school students were lead on an Immersion trip to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua by two college juniors. We traveled there for two weeks, and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences I have ever had. We went to Spanish school 5 days a week, lived with a host family, volunteered at the local school, libraries, and cleaned up the local beach. But, lets not forget all the amazing adventures we had as well. We went zip lining, hiking, surfing, walked along the beach at night to watch a turtle lay her eggs, and watched the ocean waves at night crash in glorious glowing foam from the bioluminescent creatures and plants. And, one of THE most memorable moments we all shared was our time at the Crazy Crab.. the local strip club. The two college students who lead us on the trip were really good friends and always played pranks on each other. One of them was out and about for most of the day, which gave us all time to collaborate in what would be the most epic prank ever. Trick her into going to Ladies Night and seeing her priceless facial expression? Oh, we all agreed on how amazing that opportunity would be. So, fast forward to that night as all the girls are in this room that reeked of mildew, and had a huge stage in the center with rundown floorboards. The lights went dim, there was a shadow of a man behind the white sheet that was hung up on the stage, and then the music brought the entire club to life. The "cadet" slowly tore down the sheet and started to do his thing and strip. All of us from the Immersion trip laughed and screamed hysterically. Our leader who was pranked, had the expression of someone who just saw a ghost. Then.. it happened. The stripper decided to go from making his dancing a show to an interactive experience. He jumped off stage and swayed his hips on toward the group of screaming American girls. They freaked out and pushed me to the front of the group to shield everyone. He grabbed my hands and I just lost it. I did what felt like the coolest back-somersault and ran out of there until I could no longer hear the music. No matter how many times I washed my hands and body, I swear I smelled like that body oil for days afterwards. Crap what would my mom think? "You tried to pull a prank, but you GOT pranked." Humiliation well deserved.
