Hello! So, this is the first entry of what I hope turns out to be a decent travel blog. If you're reading this, then you probably already know me somehow (I'm Bond by the way...). I'm currently in Redmond, WA, which is a suburb of Seattle. I'm nannying my older sister Ann's two children, Lauren, 5, and Cal, 3. Ann is a physical therapist who quit her job in order to have her children, back when she and her husband Mike were living in Portland. She now has to get herself recertified by working in Oregon in order to work in Washington. (Get all that?) Okay, that's not really important except to say that Ann needed someone to take care of her kids for a few weeks while she was away, since Mike works full time at a software company here. Enter myself, recent graduate of University of Iowa with a cinema major, part time documentary filmmaker, 22 years old, and fantastic babysitter between jobs until September. My best friend, Chelsey, has a friend who she studied abroad with who lives in Seattle that she's been wanting to visit for quite some time, so when Ann asked me if I wouldn't mind driving my trusty silver Saturn out so there'd be an extra car available, Chels happily agreed to drive with me. We took three days and spent most of our trip on I-90. We stopped in Spearfish, SD and Butte, MT, finally arriving in Redmond pretty much zonked, but managed to go out for the night anyway. After an unsuccessful 3 AM attempt to figure out Mike's cryptic directions for how to work the hot tub, we crashed. The next week Chelsey had to fly home, and strangely one of my friends from school, Ryan, happened to be at the airport at the same time I was dropping Chelsey off. He was connecting on his way to Spokane to check out apartments as he's going to Gonzaga Law School in the fall (yay for him, by the way) so we got to see each other which was both ironic and sweet. It was helpful to have a bit of cushion with Chelsey leaving... I was sad to see her go after our fun drive :). So... last spring I was working at Iowa City Public Library and finishing up my time as a college student, this week I spent pushing the swing a thousand times, working on that last bit of potty training, and generally attempting to keep the kids entertained while driving them around a city I have no idea how to get around. Not to mention I've never even lived in a city before. So. I mentioned that I was between jobs until September. Well, in September I'll be making a quick stop back in Iowa before journeying to South Korea where I'll be teaching English for 12 months. I'm quite close to making a decision on the specific school as well, but I think that's for another entry. Just now, I thought I'd let a few people know that I'm alive and well :)...
Cheers
~Bond
