My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

New Zealand | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos

The counter on my camera just ticked over, meaning I’ve taken 10,000 photos. It’s taken a few years and I’ve learnt many skills, but have yet to learn the art of clear story telling, shooting to order, and importantly how to turn this into a sustainable income. This opportunity would hopefully give me the missing tools I need and a real outlet to share my work and influence others.

Photography for me is a freeze frame of an event, much more that just the visual element, a good photo should be able to take the viewer to a place as if it was their own memory, with the sounds, smells and emotions that only the photographer really experienced. This is the essence if what I strive to for.

It was a hard decision to pick this set; I live in a county full of bright colours, breathtaking landscapes and plethora of unique flora and fauna. Forests are notorious for tricky lighting, bad contrast and limited colour pallet. I decided that these factors add an extra challenge, both for me and the judges to experience vision I set out to capture. Something that starts by parting from the easy and obvious roads in life and exploring the unexpected delights you often find there.
