My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

In most cases People have a filter on their eye helping them choose the emotion they express. I would be terrible at poker as I am completely deprived of that filter, and considering I’m a 27 year old self-funded PhD student; I rather not risk finding out how bad I am at it just yet. Three years ago a friend encouraged me to try photography as I always appreciated other people’s work. Instantly I found that filter I never had. With photography I could express myself exactly how I wanted to and tell other people's story at the same time. Since then I’ve been trying to practice as much as I can, trying to learn how to do justice to nature as I capture it and how to capture beautiful moments before they are lost. As I haven’t had any professional training I still rely on editing my photos to try and express them as closely to what I saw, while constantly trying to learn how to not rely on editing as much as possible. This would be a great opportunity for me to learn more about how to maximise the use of my newly acquired filter and to experience a culture I would not other wise be able to do so as a student. photography is a passion to me, however that does not make me a good photographer, this would be a chance for me to learn how to be good at what i am passionate about.
