Yee, Yee, Yeeee!
It's happening. The long awaited, highly anticipated journey south is about to commence.
For years I've dreamt of living in South America. Thanks to a great job opportunity here in Denver I've been able to accrue some funds and the adventure is about to begin.
First stop - Atlanta
Most of my family lives in or around Atlanta so I'll be stopping there first for a few days to say my parting words. Lord knows if or when I'll return so it feels imperative to see them all before I go.
On that note, I'm leaving to find a job and am hoping to be absent from the States for a while. I've always had a sense of wonder about the world and the desire to see all of it has forever been present within me.
Stop numero dos - Lima, Peru
Seeing as how I don't speak Spanish, I figured it a good idea to take a course upon arriving on the predominately Spanish-speaking continent.
I'll be arriving in 'The City of Kings' one week before my month long intensive course begins and in that time I intend on exploring the sights, sounds, and smells. After my first week, I'll be taking 8 hours of Spanish 5 days a week for a month. The first two weeks will be spent in the school's dorms and the second two weeks will be spent as a guest in the home of a local.
I'm hoping that a month of studying in one local will give me time to adjust to the language and cultural differences I may encounter down south before the real fun begins.
Real Fun - Who knows?
After a month in Peru, the goal is to travel the continent, seeing as much as possible while simultaneously applying for jobs. I'm certified to teach English and word on the street is that there is a need for English teachers in South America.
If all goes according to plan, I would like to visit Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil before hopefully securing my position as a teacher in Uruguay.
I've got big plans for Uruguay. More on that, still to come.
This should be an awesome time. Unless I'm having way too good of a time or get lost in the Amazon and die I hope to update this journal pretty regularly.
It's also possible that I don't enjoy myself at all down there and hop on a plane to retire to a life of spicy noodle eating in Thailand.
Either way, good things are to come so stay tuned.
Much Love,
B-ez
