Things always happen by chance. Three hours walking on a sunny Sunday in this beautiful valley situated into the hearth of Cappadocia definitely made of our day a special one. Sunday for the families of this poor and humble region of Turkey means family, enjoying the life, recovering from a hard week of work on the river side, fishing and having a dip into the fresh and clean water, which gives life to the wonderful vegetation of the Ihlara valley.
Along the walk,we were invited several times to have tea with them, to taste some food and although the communication was not easy, since they spoke no word of english, an improvised football match made the exchange of laughter and glances easier and effective, straight into the goal!
At the end of our walk though, we had to face the reality of their every day life. "Money money money!" two kids, in red and blue were runnig after us shouting.."Money money".. You could see life and vitality in their eyes, in full contrast with the surroundings, that were telling us stories of a life in cramped conditions, among demolished houses and dust. I ll never forget their excitement! Jumping on us screaming loud when we let them try our sun screen on their young but already thick skin. The visit in this village ended with other children coming along, biking and asking for pictures of their tricks. Everybody was happy and everybody looked into my camera with a genuine smile, for the last family shot. My travel companions and I learned something on that day.
