Well Today we technically went to our 6th country (Newcastle,England ) cause of visa reasons. so we stayed in this English town for 2 nights and didnt do anything but watch tv.

Although I did venture out momentarily to get some groceries. All I can say is that it was cold and cloudy and it didnt seem like a very happy place for some reson. Anyways we flew back to Rome and caught a 6 hr train up to Venice.

The carriages were little rooms with 6 seats in each where 3 faced each other. Man I hate this type of seating....where do u look when someone is sitting straight across from u. There are occasional glances at each other and u look away quickly as if u had just looked at the sun. So this activity went on for 6 hrs cause the seats were about as comfortable as sitting on a cactus so I got no sleep.

So we arrive at Venice at around 5:30 and watched the sunrise so all was forgotten. The Lonely planet says that this place has about 20mil visitors per yr...well I def believed this as I walked thru the narrow alleyways shoulder to shoulder with numerous nationalities. The first thing u see when u step out of the train station is the grand canal and it certainly resembles the images of Venice I remember seeing on tv.

So its only 6am so we walk thru relatively empty streets in search for piazza San Marco, which is apparently the place to go. We walked along the all too familiar cobbled streets in and out of alleyways, thru mini piazzas and over a few arched bridges until we reach an opening the size of 3 football fields...my guess was we were here.

Its too early for anyone else to be here which is a good thing as we are able to take unobscured photos and wander around easily.

The piazza itself is surrounded by a 3 or 4 storey building with large columns out the front with st Marcos basilica forming part of the permimeter and a 40 metre bell tower sitting in the middle that u can climb up for a $12 hit to the wallet.

We decided to go into one of the museums in the piazza to get some Venetian history into us. Well after we brushed up on our history for a few hrs we decided to walk back to the train station and check into our camping ground (The Jolly Camping Ground). But first I needed some grub. So as we were walking I spotted a pizzeria selliing pizzas the size of chocolate wheels at a raffle.....suffice to say a good end to the day.
