My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 15, 2010 | flickr photos

I am a student of regional studies in Tampere, Finland. Although my field of study sounds quite inartistic, I have happily noticed that we are encouraged to be creative, which is one of the most important things I want of my future career.

I have to admit, to be honest, never before did I dream about becoming a professional photographer. Until I found out about this competition and watching the tutorial videos. There really could be a possibility to combine all my greatest interests: travelling, photographing, new cultures, landscapes and people... And at the same time learning, about photography, the world, about life.

Bhutan as our destination is one of those dreamlike places where it is possible to find the most fascinating, original lifestyles and breathtaking nature with its unique wildlife. And the possibility that I could tell the world about them makes me even more enthusiastic. I always encounter new cultures with humble attitude, appreciating other traditions and views of life, knowing that the expensive camera I might carry does not make me any better person. What comes to my physical condition, it is good and I am used to walking long distances.

Knowing also that I have a lot to learn about the use of camera, this scholarship would be just a perfect opportunity. I am very eager to learn, and everything I do, I want to do as good as possible. I hope my photos could raise awareness e.g. about endangered wildlife, as nature is close to my heart and maybe I can do something to save parts of it.

This story is about a visit to our summerhouse, a place I have spent many sunny summer days in. Having not seen my home country in six months, this visit was beautiful but also sad; everything seemed a bit abandoned, although it was only me who had abandoned it.
