My Video scholarship 2010 entry

In my opinion, film is the most influential form of art. Utilizing film, we have the
power to convey stories, ideas and concepts through moving images and
audio. This is one of the main reasons I chose to make my documentary about international athletes. As
an athlete and film student at Virginia Commonwealth University, I have
met and interacted with many foreign athletes. Gaining so many foreign
friends opened up my eyes to the challenges and opportunities that they undergo
by coming to the US. To start the documentary I interviewed six foreign athletes
and one strength coach. I developed a number of interview questions for each
athlete and coach with the main objective of acquiring an authentic sense of what the
players' lives are like. I then chose two of my favorite interviews to use in this
documentary. Through this documentary I wanted to give others a small picture of
what these international athletes’ lives are like. More than anything I wish to use film
as a way to show people the world in a way that they have never seen it. I want
to travel the world and create films that impact people’s lives and potentially
change the way society thinks as a whole.
