My Scholarship entry - The Horsemen

In a nomadic society there are no packaged meats. There are no refrigerators and the only meat you will eat is the kind that is caught and killed that day. The horsemen asked of we wanted to watch the process of how meat was prepared. While this image may disturb most westerners and vegetarians, this is just another task in a long day for the men. The whole process from "farm to table" took about an hour and a half.

True pride of a horseman comes from his ability to break, train, and ride his horses. Here, one of the younger horsemen, Jaggi, shows off his skills before he rides off in search of a sheep for evening dinner. Jaggi is not only skilled at riding the horses, but he is also in the process of becoming a vet so he can better care for his herd and the animals near his family. He had to put his education on hold for a few years because tuition costs were so great compared to the income he was making as a horseman. However, during this trip, the guest decided to collectively fund a scholarship to get him back to his studies. He will graduate 2016.

After a long day of riding, the horsemen take off the saddles and let the horses roam for the evening. The men sit by their tent and let loose. Through all of their hard work, you can tell they share a close knit bond and consider each other family. Much like their bonds with the horses, they too share a very symbiotic relationship.
