Ancient Dubai

These photos were taken over a couple of days spent in Dubai in June 2011. There is no city on the planet that shows the contrast between both the new and the old - even someone who has never visited the place, everyone knows the new Dubai BUT not everyone knows the old Dubai. These photos showcase some of the aspects of the old, ancient Dubai.

My name is Luke Thurlby, I was born in Auckland and currently reside in Sydney. Photography over the last few years has become more then holding my eye to the viewfinder and pressing the shutter. It has become so much deeper then that, it has become an adventure and a love (second only to my wife). It is now at the stage that I lie in bed before falling asleep every night thinking of locations around the world that I can only dream of ever capturing. Holidays are no longer about relaxing but are all about capturing as many amazing images as I possibly can, shots of moments and locations that are not only for my own benefit but for others as well.
In 2011 I have taken my love to the next stage by creating my own basic website to showcase my images and have attempted to create a name for myself by contacting as many publications as I can that may be interested in my images - unfortunately it appears that most publications already have many assigned photographers, in turn leaving me to try and continue the dream elsewhere.
I want to thank you so much for offering photographers throughout the world this amazing opportunity.
When I saw this competition advertised on Nat Geo - my eyes nearly popped out of my head and my heart nearly exploded through my chest with the thought of such an incredible opportunity.
Dreams do happen - and this would easily, 100% be the greatest dream of them all.
