My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Colombia | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 4 photos

Six months ago I decided to quit my full time job so that I could focus on my photography. I knew that the only way that I was ever going to be able to become a professional photographer was by being a photographer. I´ve survived thanks to my savings, so I´m not ¨officially¨ a professional.

During this six months I started taking more formal classes and a couple of months ago I was accepted to participate in a workshop given by Alessandra Sanguinetti member of Magnum, one of my early inspirations. I realized that the best way to learn is by working alongside masters of photography, so this would be undoubtedly a great opportunity to keep on that path.

Being a Colombian and living here has somehow imposed an obligation on my, I can´t go on simply photographing without pointing my camera towards the stories and life of this country. I know that having the chance of learning from Jason would certainly help me tell and show those stories and very likely get to see more issues about Colombia in National Geographic.

Three months ago I started photographing paralympic athletes from Colombia and I have had the chance to visit Martha´s home. The pictures you will see are it.
