Alone but Never Lonely

Stranded in Blessing

THAILAND | Thursday, 15 May 2014 | Views [242] | Scholarship Entry

I didn’t even feel excited about flying to Thailand that day, I was not even sure about what I was doing because from the beginning I knew that I already failed on my mission to meet with someone that I secretly like there. But everything started to change when I met with some people during my way from my country to Thailand and after they listened to my story about what drove me into this first ever solo traveling overseas of mine, they started to support me which has opened wide my eyes and I started to take every step with confidence ever since.
I arrived in Bangkok and stayed at Khaosan Road area, it was really crowded I could feel the breeze of freedom and saw so many travelers from around the world gather there. This was my first experience to be in the middle of foreigners, because I never lived in such environment like this before. I was only an ordinary girl from the third world country lived in a small town back home, never traveled overseas alone. This was the first mind-blowing experience, I felt really challenged, couldn’t wait for figuring out what would happen next.
In Bangkok, I was “trapped” into an ocean of people wearing yellow shirts. I didn’t know that it was King’s Coronation Day! I came in the right time! It was so spectacular and free meals during the day! I continue my trip to The Rose from The North, Chiangmai. I traveled 14 hours by non-sleeper train, and eventually made a new family there with the people who own the guest house where I was staying at. On my first day in Chiangmai, I went to Thailand’s highest point, Doi Inthanon, to the King and Queen’s Pagodas, beautiful waterfalls, and Karen Hill Tribe village. I met a lot of expert travelers from all over the world, they shared their experience to me, I learned much from them. On my second day, I went to Doi Suthep and met with a female solo traveler, travel blogger from Austria and she encouraged me to keep on struggling to make my dream come true to be a female solo traveler.
Last day in Thailand, I treated myself for a trip around Chao Phraya River. I also visited some small temples. Suddenly met with a monk at Wat Mahannapharam and unintentionally having my Monk’s Chat with him. I learned so much about life through him. It summed up my trip so well.
Somehow I felt really blessed through this trip. This wasn’t journey that I planned. I planned to meet someone that I fell in love with, but I ended up with meet a lot of amazing people, learned so many things about life.
