The meji, or pile of wood, is to be burned early in the morning, in mid-January. This is to mark the end of the winter harvest. My brother here never misses it.

In Nagaon, a big town near the capital, Guwahati, one sees all kinds of races from across the North East, and across the border, too. This rickshaw-puller is from Bangladesh, and his kind (illegal immigrants) are not too welcome here. Somehow, they manage to make a living, despite the hostility.
