My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Ireland recently set afire my wanderlust for the amazing offerings of this world. These photos represent the astounding colours and vibrancy I found when all I was expecting was every shade of green. They involved early morning walks for calm still waters (1), bumpy cross-country journeys for intriguing colour gradients (2), braving windy afternoons to capture the paradox of movement on film (3), pandering to a cow on the ACTUAL edge of the Cliffs of Moher waiting for that shot I’ll laugh at for years to come (4), and rolling around in the grass for hours to imitate accurately the world from an ant’s point of view (5).
Photos allow me to express my genuine and childlike amazement at the treasures of this world. I have a hankering to soak up the atmosphere of places unknown, experience and be taken aback by the vibrancy of different cultures, explore nooks and crannies to uncover hidden treasures, and of course, document it all.
Travelling with everything you own on your back for five months really makes you realise where your priorities are. Without a doubt, my camera and that little pot of gold – my memory card – are my most prized possessions. People have admonished me for always having a camera in front of my face and for always lagging behind so intent on capturing and immortalising the present moment on film. They were probably thinking ‘addiction’, but the fact that I get such enjoyment out of it, I’d say I have something more akin to PASSION.
No, I haven’t had experience with one of those big cameras with multiple lenses, countless settings and perhaps even a tripod, but YES, I want to know what would happen if you put one in my hands. Don’t you?
