Wandering Eyes Moments captured while traveling through life

My Scholarship entry - Walking with Monks

Cambodia | Sunday, January 6, 2013 | 5 photos

When I was 12 years old my mother took me on my first big overseas adventure. I was fortunate enough to visit London and Paris and it was there, in the city of passion, that I fell in love with two things; travel and photography.

Many countries and a few camera upgrades later, I have finally committed to turning that passion into a career. I recently started a diploma in photography, with the goal of improving my knowledge and skills in the field. I hope to one day work in the area of photojournalism because I believe a good photo is not only beautiful, but it captures a moment that tells an entire story.

This scholarship would be a fantastic opportunity to see a place most people would never think of visiting, and also to grow as a photographer.

This collection of images was taken in early December 2012 on my first trip to the Kingdom of Cambodia. During my short visit I stayed in the rural village of Tanop, about an hour and a half drive from Phnom Penh. These photos were shot in the temples around the village and at the local school.

You may notice my obsession with the orange clad Buddhist Monks, which feature regularly in my photos. There is just something so graceful and magical about their presents that I believe embodies the spirit of Cambodia.
