For university I recently was able to do a subject that was called “Agriculture in developing countries” which allowed me to travel to Laos and experience the culture and understand how the country is evolving through agriculture to alleviate poverty and to move out of the ‘least developed country’ category.
The piece really came about from the photos I took while I was there. I had limited equipment with me so I really relied on the captured shots of the beauty and poverty that i experienced.
It’s hard to really encapsulate all that Laos made me feel, the people there are the kindest people I have ever met that welcome me into their home and provided the best meal they could manage while only earning $50 American dollars a month. The wilderness is amazing and seems endlessly untouched which is such a rare thing to see that it breaks your heart to think of it being slowly destroyed. I felt my photos did not do this place justice and it was hard to create a piece that explained everything.
I believe documentaries have the ability of connecting people all over the world and create an understanding of the unknown. Documentaries can help people understand what is going on in the world is so important for the future.
