My Photo Scholarship 2010

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Chile | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | flickr photos

All of these photos were taken in the subway of Santiago, the city where I live. This is one of the most used public transport here, and I use it often. I've realized that people doesn't really see where they're standing once they're there, but I think it can be as interesting as any other place, especially when you try to understand people's attitude through images (real or imaginary ones).
I haven't got studies of photography, and I'm aware of my lack of technique, but I try to take my camera wherever I go, because there always can be an interesting view, even in the most simple and daily places.
I'd like to be chosen for this scholarship for I think one of the few things that are really worthy is learning, observing and understanding other cultures and customs from the core, visiting different places, whatever they may be, to enjoy what they can offer, but also to leave a trace of your own. I'm not saying that I want to change other cultures, what I mean is that I'd lik people from all over the world to look at other cultures with open eyes and open mind, with real interest, curiosity and respect. I've lived and shared with people from many different countries, and every time I do it's like I find a new part of myself that I want to show to the world. I feel people (at least here) is so self-centred or has a closed mind, most of them would use the words weird, funny or even ridiculous when they hear about other cultures, but I think that it's mostly because they don't actually know what they're about, they can't see the true meaning of these riches. I would like to show them what the world has to give, share with them the experiences I might borrow from my -hypothetical - journeys, and travel never as a turist, but as a curious child.
