Ars longa, vita brevis!

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Philippines | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 5 photos

I am 22 years old, studying a BA in International Relations. I consider myself a modern nomad, traveling is not only a passion, but a lifestyle. For me travel photography, does not only display a people, society or place different from perhaps your own, but it tells a story. From my images I would like to show the hidden story of a people or a country, that not everyone will experience or see. But also, a truth that deserves to be told and shared.

James Nachtwey, one of my greatest inspirations as a photographer, said: "For me, the strength of photography lies in its ability to evoke a sense of humanity." I believe travel photography can show a hard reality people should see for themselves or the beauty and uniqueness in a place far away. I hope to be chosen for the scholarship to learn more from a world leading professional and take photography to the next level. From early on, I have always admired journalists and photographers working for National Geographic, such as Kira Salak, so this scholarship would be a dream come true. My goal would be to share my experiences and stories. To give a voice to people and places. To tell their stories to the world.
