My name is Arpan Bhandari; I’m 19 years old, and a photography enthusiast. I first began shooting two years ago and I knew from then on that it is an art that I love. Along with photography, I enjoy sketching and painting and hope to travel quite a bit throughout my life. I love photography because it captures moments that will never happen again. It is very important to document our history collectively as humans and individually. Photos, like writing or painting, evoke emotions and help us understand ourselves and others more. The perfect shot can be obtained only after one understands the moment. You have to take in the environment and understand what kind of emotions you wish to portray using the subject, lighting and colors. These components of an image are what give it its feel. I consider photography to be a forte of mine and I would like to further develop my interest in photojournalism. Thus, I feel that this scholarship will benefit me greatly. Working with such an experienced photographer, and that too in a place like Oman, would teach me a lot. I hope to learn not only about the art but the trade as well; it will be interesting to watch professionals at work. Thank you.
