My Scholarship entry - Hoeneman Farm

My name is Amanda Rae Hoeneman, and I could begin this brief synopsis of who I am by telling you that my interest in art developed during my youth, but everyone starts their stories like that. Instead I will bring you up to date on present day Amanda, because although the past has built me up to who I am today, present somehow becomes not so much more important, but relevant. The past are simply memories just like we learn with photographs. I am approaching the end of my 20th year and I feel like I have accomplished so much, yet somehow my dreams, my ambitions, and my goals seem to have grown. I have completed a one year assignment (personal) on my family farm in Arlington, Nebraska. The series tells a vague story of my family farm. My grandfather and his siblings grew up here and after my great uncle passed away it would be auctioned off to most likely someone who wouldn't understand the history that has formed over the years on this dilapidated farm. Maybe you are wondering why I chose to include this in an essay about myself? It was the first project I proved to myself that photography is what I want to do with my life. With a camera in my hand I become infinite. With that said this scholarship could not only mean an opportunity of a lifetime, but knowledge I could never get from a book or school.
