My Scholarship entry - The Elwah
USA | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 3 photos
This has been brewing for quite some time. Last week, after half a decade as an architect, I left my job to explore photography in a deeper, more meaningful way. In six weeks I arrive in Sao Paulo, Brazil with a backpack, camera and ambition. This uprooting is part of my lifelong undertaking to continually invest in original and uncomfortable experiences. This is growth. This is how greatness is assembled. My five months in Brazil will be followed by a season of fishing and shooting photos off the back of an Alaskan fishing boat. For me, complete immersion is the only way.
Photography is much more than the mass manufacturing of pretty pictures. It should convey authenticity and an honest insight into the environment. While I recognize my ability to make beautiful images, I am eager to learn more. I want to craft incredible, powerful imagery. This scholarship speaks directly to this desire. Jason, I am ready. Let's get to work.
