My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

USA | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 4 photos

I was a bit nervous as a first time solo traveler and first time traveling internationally to thailand and cambodia outside of USA. I didn't have a plan, just pack my bags and go. My camera was glued to my hands the entire trip and shot away as life passed me by like I was thrown into an unfamiliar river photographing everything along the way floating towards an unknown destination. I didn't fully grasp what I've captured until the end of my journey and little did I know I brought back something special, something that can't be recreated . The large eyes of an unknown girl in a ancient cambodian temple who reached out with a simple gift, a wise soul standing for a smoke break overlooking her competitors in a local market, a group of foreign travelers releasing burning sky lanterns that floated away into the night sky and locals patientely waiting for their next train to arrive. This is life truly unscripted and I just so happen be at the right moment to witness human nature and its behaviors. This trip opened my eyes and soul of what it really means to be an explorer and a photographer.

I can't explain why I do the things I do or how i do it. Adrenaline is a part of it but there is something deeper im in search of, something that will inspire people one way or another. I know there is something in bhutan waiting for me to be witnessed and captured. If im chosen for this trip, my goal is to have people glance deeper than what they see through my photos and hopefully something will spark inside of them to know that we still live in a beautiful world.
