My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Let’s cut to the chase. I could tell you who I am in a typical essay with a beginning, middle and an end. Or Instead, I can explain what it feels like to be outside while its -18°C with your camera tucked protectively under your arm. That same passion that wakes you up in the morning to go stand on the edge of a cliff to see the sunset through your lens; the drive that pushes you through every muddy hole, through every wet forest, just so that you can press your face to a grainy asphalt to get the angle just right
This feeling is my drive and my passion. It’s as much as a part of me as the blood that runs through my veins and the bones that hold me up.
My name is April Pruijs. By the age of eleven, I was taking photographs like it was a second heartbeat to me. I found something important about that medium of art; I found it so vital, so inspiring. There’s something about it that will never let me forget why I fell in love with it in the first place.
I’m hoping that you understand what I mean when I say that I am a photographer not because I can be one… but because I can’t not be one. It is who I am and what I live and breathe, and I can’t imagine my life without it.
Thank you.
