About apriljoy
Here I am, having traded in my business suit for a backpack.
Prior to my life on the road, I supported children and adults with disabilities fulltime, in both my personal and professional life. I have two younger (genius) brothers who are on the autism spectrum and most recently, in my career, I managed a treatment facility for children with a dual diagnosis, (developmental delay and mental health condition) after having completed a Masters in Disability Studies. My current ambition is to leave the place I have called home for all of my life to seek out the lessons that can be learned from exploring the world as a fulltime traveler. I have always longed for a life of travel and while I have never before had the courage of conviction, I have decided that now is the time to make my dreams come true. I purged myself of my worldly possessions in order to set out on the open road, following my own compass. While I am terrified to leave all I have ever known behind, I am confident that with my very adept travel partner exploring the world alongside me, I will achieve great things in this life.
The timing of my strapping on a new pair of travel shoes has been coupled with my desire to ensure that art will play a larger role in my life going forward. I have always enjoyed film making as a hobby but rarely had the energy after my work day to develop my skills in this area. I enjoy story telling through film and it is my goal to have this blog be a platform to inspire others through my work. I want people who themselves have always longed to break free of societal expectations, to see what Karina and I are doing with our lives and feel motivated to make changes in their lives as well. I want show people the beautiful things I have seen but more importantly, tell them of the lessons I have learned.
