My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Australia | Sunday, November 6, 2011 | 5 photos
I have always been a curious individual, curious about the why, when, how and about the world I have never seen. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed looking at family photos, these photographs were my only visual link to a family I never knew in Greece and Romania. This experience showed me that a photography is a powerful medium and that a photograph, well taken, can tell a story in a way that words or moving images can not.
As a person who was initially interested in following a career in a technical trade I took up photography to satisfy an artistic urge, however as the years went by and going through many different types of jobs I discovered that photography had, for me, the perfect mix of technical thinking and artistic flair. That, coupled with my passion helped my make the decision to become a photographer.
In closing, I feel that the emotion that a photograph taken from real life can bring up is truly unique, I have a deep respect for documentary photographers who dedicate their lives to their craft to tell people the story of a particular person/place/event in a way that only photography can.
My hope is that I am able to bring that emotion to my work and help tell the story of the world.
These are the reasons I feel I would be suitable for the scholarship.
