My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Hi there, I'm 34 years old and live in Sydney. As soon as I saw this competition advertised on Nat Geo Wild, I entered immediately. Photography has been a passion of mine for the past 10 years ever since I first picked up an SLR camera to take aerial surveillance photos for Australian Coastwatch. I had this job from 2001-2003. I've always been interested in photojournalism, especially photos of people and their cultures or everyday lives. I think it's the story behind an image along with it's technical and artistic features that fascinates me. I've never had the best cameras or lenses so I've made do with trying to make my compositions as interesting as I can, and somehow deliver emotional experience to the viewer. I always feel that if somebody looks at an image of mine and instantly feels maybe happiness, sadness, intrigue, astonishment or a combination of feelings, then to me that photo was a success at least at that level. I'd love to win this competition so I could gain valuable criticism and advise from a professional, all whilst being surrounded by the wonderful scenes, themes, colours and cultures of Oman.
